Journal Article 2025 09 20 Given the importance of substantial motion (al-Ḥarakah al-Jawhariyyah) and the essential transformation of the soul in Mullā Ṣadrā’s philosophy, this research examines the relationship between human voluntary actions and the substantial motion of the soul. The main objective of this article is to investigate the role of human will and voluntary actions in directing the trajectory of the soul’s evolution. The research method is explanatory-analytical. The findings indicate that the substantial motion of humans encompasses both innate (Jibillī) and voluntary (Irādī) movements. Voluntary movement stems from practical intellect (al-ʿaql al-ʿamalī) and constitutes the basis for the growth of theoretical intellect (al-ʿaql al-Naẓarī) and the development of the soul’s essence. Furthermore, considering the inner and continuous movement of the soul, the repetition of voluntary actions leads, on the one hand, to the formation of soul’s traits (Malakāt Nafsānī), and on the other hand, determines the path and destination of the soul’s essential motion, which lays the groundwork for the progress or decline of the human existential substance. In fact, according to substantial motion, the human soul is in perpetual flux (Sayalān), and voluntary actions play a fundamental role in consciously directing its movement. Therefore, a precise understanding of the role of will and voluntary actions in Mullā Ṣadrā’s philosophy can serve as a suitable guide for improving the quality of human life and spirituality. با توجه به اهمیت حرکت جوهری و تحول ذاتی نفس در فلسفۀ ملاصدرا، این پژوهش به بررسی ارتباط میان اعمال اختیاری انسان و حرکت جوهری نفس می‌پردازد. هدف اصلی، بررسی نقش اراده و اعمال اختیاری انسان در جهت‌دهی به مسیر تکامل نفس است. روش پژوهش تبیینی‎-‎تحلیلی است. یافته‌ها نشان می‌دهند که حرکت جوهری انسان، شامل حرکت‌های جبلی و ارادی است؛ حرکت ارادی، ناشی از عقل عملی و مبنای رشد عقل نظری و توسعۀ ذات نفس است. همچنین با توجه به حرکت درونی و پیوستۀ نفس، تکرار اعمال اختیاری از یک طرف موجب شکل‌گیری ملکات نفسانی می‌شود و از سویی دیگر، مسیر و مقصد حرکت ذاتی نفس را که زمینه‌ساز پیشرفت یا سقوط جوهر وجودی انسان است، مشخص می‏کند. در واقع، بنابر حرکت جوهری، نفس انسان همواره در سَیَلان است و اعمال اختیاری، نقش اساسی در جهت‌دهی ارادی به حرکت آن دارد. بنابراین، درک دقیق نقش اراده و اعمال اختیاری در فلسفۀ ملاصدرا می‌تواند راهنمای مناسبی برای بهبود کیفیت زندگی و معنویت انسان باشد. https://ipd.razavi.ac.ir/article_2159_d95b676fdd590969c8d9c479e09f2fde.pdf
