Abstract

Alexander Aphrodisias, one of Aristotle's commentators, is one of the initiators of theoreticians in the subject of intellect and active intellect with his treatises entitled "Fi al-Aql Ala Aristotle" and "On the Soul". The topic of "active intellect" is discussed in terms of truth and what it is, and in terms of its teleology and its relationship with humans. What is the "truth of active intellect"? Is it dependent on humans or independent of humans? What is the effectiveness of the active intellect and what is its existential, epistemological and teleological position in Alexander Aphrodisias's theory of intellect? In this article, with the analytical descriptive method, we found these findings that the efficacy of active intellect is existential and epistemic. The active intellect assumes an external aspect and has the position of the divine and incorruptible intellect, and from the epistemological point of view, the active intellect also knows itself; It also causes reasonable knowledge, and in terms of teleology, the perfection of human existence, thinking belongs to the highest. In order to answer these questions, we first briefly introduce Alexander's theory of intellect, and then discuss the theory of active intellect.
