Theology is among the significant issues of religious knowledge that has been addressed in various aspects in numerous narrations. This article analyzes the chain of transmission and implications of one of the hadiths of Imam Reza (peace be upon him), in which the argument of intellectual precaution or rationality is beautifully explained. Considering the gap in previous research—which has mostly dealt with generalities and paid less attention to a comprehensive chain-of-transmission and semantic analysis of this narration—this study attempts to examine the validity of the chain of transmission and the semantic implications of the narration using a descriptive-analytical method. The research results show that, in terms of the chain of transmission, although it is considered weak according to the terminology of later scholars, it is valid and acceptable given the evidence. In terms of semantics, using logical reasoning and the argument of intellectual precaution, it has been excellently demonstrated that choosing faith in God and acting upon religious commands, even in conditions of uncertainty, is the best option from a rational perspective and has a significant impact on the ultimate destiny of humans. This viewpoint can be used as a strength in doctrinal discussions and help strengthen the faith of believers, their adherence to their beliefs, and its use in theological discussions.
